About us
Lifeline is a civil society, not-for-profit, volunteer driven organization committed to transforming conflict affected communities through tested local driven conflict prevention initiatives. It was established in January 2012 and is dedicated to working with conflict affected communities in Somalia to transform their by innovatively addressing their day to day disputes and preventing it from blowing into violence.
The creation of Lifeline is prompted by the realization that intercommoned and inter religious conflicts are preventing the attainment of sustainable peace and stability and that conventional peace building and social reconciliation efforts have remain a kneejerk reaction to conflicts rather than proactive initiatives to managing and preventing conflicts before they turn out to be violent battles. Therefore Lifeline seeks to provide alternative approach to conflict prevention and management by focusing primarily on promoting tolerance and peaceful co-existence of various communities’ thereby minimizing violent conflicts in Somalia, particularly in South West state and Benadir Region.
Lifeline also focuses on core causes of conflicts in these regions by implementing poverty reduction activities such youth employment, women empowerment and livelihood activities for all the segment of the community. Lifeline believes that continuous conflict management and prevention is the best way to prevent violent conflicts that are persistent in parts of Somalia particularly the South West Regions. In this regard Lifeline will therefore strongly advocate for informal, organic and locally driven continuous promotion of social integration, tolerance and understanding among communities leaving together. This is departure from the traditional one off reconciliation processes that only kicks in when a conflict has reached its peak and has caused death, injuries and displacement
Build sustainable peace and cohesion through locally own and locally driven conflict prevention mechanisms by empowering local communities to find solutions to their conflicts.
